They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Acts 2:42
Liturgical ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your baptismal call of service to one another. Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning such as preparing the environment or through a public role of service within the Mass, from lectors who proclaim the word, to extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to ushers and greets who offer hospitality and direct seating and processions. Parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations.
Your Gifts are Essential
Finding a liturgical ministry within which to serve is easy because there are many options to choose from. There is one that is best suited for you— one that matches the gifts and talents that God graced you with the needs of the ministry.
We Are a Community of Communities
The Great Commission created the infrastructure for basic ministerial functions within the Church. Our Parish is a community of communities. Every person’s faith journey is different, and every person’s interests and talents will lead them to different places. And yet, we are all of the Body of Christ.
Ministries Fulfill the Church Mission
Liturgical ministries respond to God’s call serve one another and share the Gospel.
Be Part of the Mission
We invite you to take part in this great mission! To learn more about specific liturgical groups, please follow the links to the right or contact the Parish Center for additional information about the ministry or to join a ministry group.
Extraordinary Ministers Of Holy Communion At Mass (EMHC) prayerfully serve the faithful people of the C-1 Family by distributing the Precious Body and Blood of Christ during the Eucharistic celebrations of the Mass.
In this ministry, you are asked to serve once or twice a month. A monthly schedule is emailed to all Extraordinary Ministers Of Holy Communion.
EMHC training is provided by the EMHC trainer about 2-3 times a year, generally in preparation for the holiest times of the liturgical year— Christmas and Easter or when there is a need.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God at liturgical celebrations. A lector proclaims the first and second readings at Mass. A lector also leads the Prayers of the Faithful and the announcements. This ministry requires a person with an excellent speaking voice who reads with life, energy, and enthusiasm.
As proclaimers of the Word, we help facilitate a prayerful mood in the assembly. We seek to present a thoughtful and prayerful presentation of the Word to help those in attendance be receptive in heart and mind to the message of hope and love shared with all in the proclamation of the Gospel and homily.
The role of the altar server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass. At least one server always assists the priest and often two or more servers are present.
They carry the cross, the processional candles during certain celebrations, hold the book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer and assist him when he receives the gifts from the people, wash the hands of the priest, assist the deacon as necessary. Altar servers do not distribute holy communion.
Altar servers wear albs and are seated in a place from which they can easily assist the priest celebrant and deacon. The place next to the priest is normally reserved for the deacon.
Servers respond to the prayers and dialogues of the priest along with the congregation. They also join in singing the hymns of the liturgy.
Training is held periodically. Servers receive proper formation, including instruction on the Mass and its parts and their meaning, the various objects used in the liturgy, such as their names and use, and the various functions of the server during the Mass and other liturgical celebrations.
Our service is making parishioners and guests feel welcome and comfortable as we gather for our Eucharistic celebration. Our Ushers can see the presence of Christ in each person as they arrive.
The Oldest Lay Ministry - The ministry of ushers is the oldest lay ministry in the Catholic Church. During the time of Christ, the doorkeepers of the temple numbered in the hundreds and were the forerunners of today’s ushers.
The more immediate predecessor of today’s usher can be found in the clerical order of ostiary (porter), instituted in the 3rd Century A.D. During those times it was the duty of the porters or ushers to guard the door of the church against any intruders who might disturb the service. The porter duties were so important that they came to be included in the rite of ordination, where they were specified as: “to ring the bells, open the church and sacristy, to open the book for the preacher.”
In 1972 Pope Paul VI abolished the order of porter and this important task was given over to the laity.
“The Liturgy flourishes in a climate of Hospitality” (Art and Environment in Catholic Worship). Welcoming environment in our parish gives comfort and inviting to come to our church. The role of Ushers is to be a minister of hospitality, which includes greeting, and seating parishioners for the Liturgy, helping to collect offertory gifts, guiding congregation who are receiving Communion, passing out Bulletin and other announcement flyers, and picking-up trash left on the seats after the Mass.
A Mass Coordinator prepares the details of the Liturgy. This person sets up and prepares the Altar before the Mass, working closely with the Priest/Presider, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and Offertory Collection Volunteers. Mass Coordinator is needed for each Mass.
Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD; cry out to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with a song of praise, joyfully sing out our psalms.Psalm 95:1-2
The Bible explains that every good gift comes from God (James 1:17). Music is one of God’s good gifts. God has given both man and angels the gift of music-making (Genesis 4:21; Job 38:7). The purpose of music and singing is to rejoice in and worship the Lord (Psalm 95:1-2).
The Lord created the powerful gift of music and He has given us voices to praise and worship Him with. The Music Ministry spreads the Word of God through music experiences.
The purpose of the Music Ministry is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, encourage believers in their walk with Christ.
The Music Ministry is open to all parishioners. It is composed of parishioners who have the desire to sing and worship the Lord. If you play a musical instrument and would like to use your talent for the Lord, the C-1 Family has a place for you. The Music Ministry provides an avenue through which individuals may share their gifts and be an integral part of the worship.
